The weather is definitely getting lighter, but with the constant changes in conditions, spring dressing can be tricky.
I always advise layering and keeping it fairly simple – now is when great accessories are a godsend. Blue is a perfect, fresh choice for the season too. Keep it light and team with nude and textures like suede for a slightly tougher edge.
Nothing is easier to wear than an oversized man’s shirt. The ruffled sleeves on this Poplin shirt from Valentino, £755 make it a great option to lay over a lighter vest.
Spring is very much the season of the Breton Stripe. Wearing a round neck sweater, like this Whistles choice, £40 over your shirt can look really cute – leave the sleeves long with the buttons undone and pair with lots of chunky silver bangles.
Footwear can be particularly problematic – wet weather ruins lighter fabrics but the time for big chunky soles is definitely done. I can’t help but fall for these super-pretty Aspiga blue leather ballet pumps, £90. They’re heavy enough to cope with a little rain and should see you through until summer.
I love these wide-legged Darci Cady trousers from Stella McCartney, £495. There’s a slightly mannish, forties vibe to them that works really well in the mid-season – glam up with sequins for night or pare back with a simple straight-necked top in the day.
Finally the bag – a leather cross body with a chunky texture is the perfect anti-dote the to relentless flowers and butterfly designs many think women want the second the weather improves. This one is from Matches, £480.
