They’re not sexy, they’re not sweet and they’re certainly not something we want to admit to, but when 10 million of us have them and 75.9% of us are embarrassed by them, it’s definitely time to talk about Bunions.
What are Bunions?
Bunions are bony lumps (hallux valgus) that form on the inside of the feet, under the big toe.
What Causes Bunions?
Lots of us have a big toe that leans slightly toward our other toes. Over time, the base of the big toe pushes outward against the first metatarsal bone, which results in a bony, often painful hump at the base of the big toe – your bunion.
Poor fitting shoes and high heels often speed this process up considerably which is why so many female celebrities are prone to them.
Who has Bunions?
Meghan Markle, Victoria Beckham, Naomi Campbell, Jennifer Lopez and Amal Clooney ( we KNOW!)
What Treats Bunions?
Great footwear mainly. We really rate Sole Bliss, who found that loads of us buy uncomfortable footwear and really suffer for it, so they created a whole range designed to tackle the problem.
Also not squeezing into too narrow shoes and relieving pressure where you can. Surgery can be an option but is usually a last resort
